Here’s one you might “like”: Citibank has a new Facebook app that lets members of its ThankYou loyalty program pool points with family and friends.
According to a New York Times report, the idea lets ThankYou members come up with a shared goal — accumulating enough points to fly a relative home to visit her mother, for example.
Citibank’s ThankYou program lets people with Citi credit cards and checking accounts build up points that can be redeemed for travel or merchandise costs.
Citi started letting ThankYou members give points to friends and relatives through the program’s website last year and found that it caught on quickly.
Expanding it to Facebook was a natural step, Ralph Andretta, head of co-brands and loyalty for Citi’s card unit, tells The Times.
“We thought, why not bring it to where customers spend time socially, on Facebook?” he says. “This is a sense of multiple people pooling points for a unified cause or reward.”
Citi spokeswoman Emily Collins assures the company’s app protects participants’ security, and she says the bank does not share individual ThankYou account information with Facebook.
Sounds like Citi will be get a few new friend requests soon.
