Did anybody know that Continental will officially die tomorrow? Yep, you heard us. This weekend marks a large milestone in the merger between United and Continental and on Monday morning, you won’t be able to board a Continental flight ever again.
Ok, ok. We know what you all REALLY care about. What happens to my MILES?
The good news is that your miles are safe, regardless of whether or not you are a member of United MileagePlus, Continental OnePass, or both. The bad news (and it’s not so bad) is that the rules surrounding how you will access those miles going forward are a bit complicated and dependent on several factors.
We have outlined the various possibilities below. You simply need to identify which bucket you fall into and follow our directions. YOU MAY NEED TO MAKE CHANGES TO YOUR ACCOUNTS ON USINGMILES.COM SO THEY CONTINUE TO WORK!
It’s fairly simple though, so don’t fret! If you have any questions or concerns about your UsingMiles accounts, feel free to email us at [email protected]. If you have questions for United, contact customer service at 1-800-421-4655.
If you are:
- A Continental OnePass account only (no previous United MileagePlus account)
- Sign in on United.com: use original OnePass account number + original Continental.com password.
- Your old OnePass account number becomes your new MileagePlus account number, effective March 3rd, 2012.
- No Changes needed to your UsingMiles dashboard.
- A United MileagePlus account only (no previous Continental OnePass account)
- Sign in on United.com: use your new 8-digit MileagePlus account number + original United.com password.
- United will assign you a new MileagePlus 8-digit account number on or before March 3rd, 2012, and your old 11-digit MileagePlus number will be retired.
- AFTER March 3rd, you can get your new account number by going to: http://www.mileageplusmergerupdates.com/en/mp/Welcome (United is also emailing a reminder)
- You need to replace your original 11-digit MileagePlus account number with your new 8-digit MileagePlus account number in your UsingMiles.com dashboard.
- A Continental OnePass & a United MileagePlus account AND you linked your accounts with United Airlines
- Sign in on United.com: use original OnePass account number + original United.com password.
- Your old OnePass number becomes your new MileagePlus account number, effective March 3rd, 2012.
- You need to replace your original 11-digit MileagePlus account number with your new 8-digit MileagePlus account number in your UsingMiles dashboard.
- You have a Continental OnePass & a United MileagePlus account AND DID NOT link your accounts with United Airlines
- You now basically have two MileagePlus accounts:
- (1) Your original MileagePlus account:
- Sign In: use new 8-digit account number (assigned by United) +use original United.com password
- (2) Your NEW MileagePlus account, that replaces your original OnePass account
- Sign In: use original OnePass account number +use original OnePass password
- You can call 1-800-421-4655 to link your accounts, or wait for an online tool on United.com coming in April.
- You need to replace your original 11-digit MileagePlus account number with your new 8-digit MileagePlus account number in your UsingMiles dashboard.
Clear as mud? We thought so.
Rest assured, this merger will not affect your miles or any trips you have planned with either airline. If you have additional questions, please call United MileagePlus at 1-800-421-4655. You can also read more here.
We hope this helps ease the transition into United’s new MileagePlus Program!
Happy Travels!
